ILLUSTRATIONS

My illustrative work comes from years of experience as a graphic artist and storyteller, and it’s deeply rooted in developing and refining the narrative and the character. Whether I’m illustrating for children’s books, conceptual pieces, or personal projects, I use the strengths I developed over nearly twenty years working in illustration.
In each piece, my goal is to balance clarity and emotion. I want my illustrations to feel alive and engaging while still serving the story behind them. I pay close attention to light, shadow, expression, form, and line, drawing on my training in realism to create figures and scenes that feel intentional and grounded. Drawing has always been a way for me to sharpen my eyes and push my technique; every illustration is both an experiment and an invitation into the character's lives and experiences.
MY APPROACH TO ILLUSTRATIONS
My approach to creating illustrations always starts with a pencil sketch. I like to take the time to explore each character’s body language, expressions, and overall style on paper first. This stage is all about discovery by figuring out who the character is and how they move or inhabit a space. Once the initial sketch feels right, I begin refining the image, layering in paint, colored pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, or watercolour, depending on what the piece calls for.
I also often refine the pieces digitally, bringing black and white illustrations to life with color while maintaining the energy of the original drawing. The process is very hands-on and intuitive, and I don't use AI to do the drawing or digital work for me. Whether I complete the illustration with pen to paper or add a bit of colour in Photoshop, the goal is always to create polished, finished illustrations that feel alive and expressive, but still carry the warmth and personality of the first pencil marks. It’s a process that allows me to combine careful planning with playful experimentation, and I hope that energy comes through in every piece.

Here are just a few samples of the various styles of illustrations I can offer for your project.

The Eeries Series

My very first book series - The Eeries Series is soon to be published on KDP. The Eeries Series is a set of children’s books filled with curious, spooky characters who find themselves in mysterious situations that aren’t always what they seem. Each story gently shows that sometimes the things we fear are simply things we don’t yet understand. With vivid illustrations and heartfelt storytelling, the series strikes a balance between a sense of wonder and whimsy and important lessons about empathy, bravery, and open-mindedness. The Eeries Series invites readers to see beyond appearances, to look for the good in the unusual, and to find joy in discovering the truth behind the “eerie.”
